‘Cryptic Crosswords – How to solve them!’

Multiple sessions are available in October and November 2014 – each is a single one-off workshop, lasting 3 hours. Sessions are Saturdays or Sundays, morning or afternoon. Specific dates are 4th Oct, 5th Oct, 11th Oct, 12th, 8th Nov, 9th Nov, 15th Nov, 16th Nov, 29th Nov, 30th Nov. Each day has a morning and an afternoon session available.

10am – 1pm, or 1.30pm – 4.30pm

‘Unlock the mysteries of cryptic crosswords in this fun and practical beginners workshop’

“Cryptic Crosswords – How to solve them! This brain-fizzing session for crossword novices will teach you how to unlock cryptic clues, and how to effortlessly build your vocabulary and trivial knowledge whilst having fun! With a background in neuroscience and psychology, Crossword Tutors also teach you how to get the most from this classic pastime in order to develop your memory, communication, and problem-solving skills.

The workshop teaches the rules of cryptic crosswords, clue structure, and standard and some advanced clue types. It teaches basic and some advance solving strategies, and techniques for training cognitive functions including memory access, problem solving, and analytic reasoning. By the end of the half-day session, beginners will have the skills to solve most cryptic clues, and techniques to take home and practice.

Crossword Tutors also runs optional monthly ‘Crossword Clubs’ for course attendees to practice their skills in a friendly, social environment until they become expert cruciverbalists!”
