London Thinks – The Theology and Ethics of Star Wars

The Theology and Ethics of Star Wars

The Live-stream for this event is below.

From the Eastern-robed mysticism of The Force, to the jihad of Darth Vader and Kylo Ren. Join our expert panel to analyse the film’s key moments and characters, and investigate the belief system and ethics of Star Wars: everything from its reliance on prophecies, communing with spirits and warrior priests to telekinesis. Is Obi Wan Kenobi a benign spirit guide or a radical preacher recruiting vulnerable teens to join a terrorist movement that blows up government Death Stars? And is Han Solo really a humanist?

With Professor Francesca Stavrakopoulou; cultural historian Sound of Cinema presenter, Free Thinker and proprietor of The Philosopher’s Arms, Dr Matthew Sweet; Chief Executive of the British Humanist Association and SciFi supremo, Andrew Copson. Chaired by journalist and broadcaster Samira Ahmed.  (More TBC) Line-up may change from the advertised listing.
