Sunday Concerts: Maggini Quartet

Established in 1988, the Maggini Quartet stands as a pinnacle among British string quartets. Their exceptional recordings have garnered prestigious international accolades, including the Gramophone Chamber Music Award of the Year, Diapason d’Or of the Year, and a Cannes Classical Award. Twice, they’ve been honored with nominations for Grammy Awards, solidifying their position as leaders in the realm of chamber music.

“a performance that was technically precise and fabulously idiomatic.” – The Guardian

The Maggini Quartet write:

“This is a programme of ‘firsts’. Malcolm Arnold’s first full-length quartet is framed by arguably one of the wittiest quartets from Beethoven’s first set, and one of Brahms’s first two mature published works for the ensemble. We love this programme for its diversity: Beethoven under the influence of Haydn and Mozart, Arnold under the influence of Bartók and Brahms, well, doing his own thing but very much feeling the shadow of Beethoven towering over him!”
