World Wide Weave – Extraordinary Lives

An Exhibition for the 75th Anniversary of the Camphill Movement 1940-2015

An inspiring series of 75 pieces of multi-media textile art by adults, children and young people with learning disabilities from 19 countries worldwide to mark the Camphill Movement’s 75th anniversary.

The exhibition is a celebration of their creative, artistic skills in the craft of weaving, tapestry-making, felting and multi-media textile design, each textile depicts each community’s relationship to its physical and social environment. Many of the communites have used entirely home produced materials in the World Wide Weave.  The theme of natural resources, recycling and renewal runs like a special thread throughout the exhibition.

The craft work and artistic creativity in the project is not just something which merely fills the time or is valuable only for its therapeutic or educational aspects.  The weavers and tapestry-makers are artists and artisans in their own right and can place their work alongside that of mainstream artists and craftspeople.

The exhibition is part of a national tour which is being shown in a variety of locations including public buildings, art galleries and museums around the UK and Ireland.
