Going to pot in 1968?

As well as challenging the role of religion in society, the student branch of the British Humanist Association turned their attention to other contemporary issues concerning their members…

The Student Humanist Federation Conference argued that, as an intoxicant, they believed that cannabis was less damaging to health than cigarettes, amphetamines and barbiturates. The Conference concluded by calling for the:

“immediate legalisation of the use of cannabis, subject to appropriate statutory control, broadly similar to that applied to alcohol”.

Unfortunately for those who attended the 9th Student Humanist Federation Conference, their desire to see immediate legal reform was not shared by legislators.
