The ethical encyclopaedia – right and wrong in Wikipedia

Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that anyone can edit. What are the ethical principles which have enabled its open community to produce the world’s largest compendium of knowledge? How are difficult questions of philosophy, politics and religion resolved? How are the truth and quality of the texts determined? This talk will illustrate the rights and wrongs of this continuous process and explain how newcomers can participate.

Andrew Davidson has been a Wikipedia editor for over ten years and has written hundreds of articles about diverse topics including freethinker Harriet Law; the concept of structural evil; the motto *festina lente* and the nearby Fryer’s Delight! He is a founder member of Wikimedia UK – the charity which supports Wikipedia activity in the UK.
