Independent Employment? Business Pioneers Workshop – Birkbeck, University of London
22nd October 2017 · 3:30pm - 5:00pm
In person | Virtual event
Questions related to independence in the broad context of employment and entrepreneurship are amongst some of the most pertinent faced by individuals, families, academics, business leaders and policy makers today. As more research in this area is conducted, more debates held, and more reports published, it can seem as though visions for the future can dominate discussion. Topics such as universal basic income, the rise of the robot workforce and prophesised rule of an omnipotent artificial intelligence appear to attract greater and more widespread attention.
This workshop will instead use historical examples and situations found in our present days to help us explore our personal attitudes to independence in the context of employment and entrepreneurship. Participants will be asked to discuss case studies in groups, take part in practical exercises and reflect on their experiences. To conclude the workshop, we will run a whirlwind ideation process so that every participant can begin to materialise one of their own creative ideas.
FREE – but pre-booking is recommended
