One World
11th May 2019 · 3:00pm - 4:30pm
In person | Virtual event
One World is the creation of award-winning choir director/composer Helen Yeomans. It has been performed several times in the South West to critical acclaim and most recently in Hull as part of the 2017 City of Culture celebrations. Focusing on contemporary themes such as the environment, the global family, slavery, industrialization and social justice, One World uses original songs and arrangements threaded together with readings, dialogue and percussion to create a moving and passionate narrative.
Inspired by ancient prophesies and current storylines, the narrative moves from the present to ‘how we got here’ and finally towards a future full of potential and promise. All the music is performed by the London One World Choir which has been created especially for these shows. Additional vocals are provided by singers from the New YVC youth choir which is based in Stratford. Sensitive, simple choreography and solo vocal performances add dazzle to the production.
One World includes spoken word from local artists to complement existing pieces. In London these have been brought by Cheryl Moscowitz, Luke Miller and Vanessa Kisuule, who will be reading their new pieces in the shows.
Anne Ridgely, Amnesty International Exeter: “One World was one of the most moving musical events I’ve ever experienced.”
Lydia Somerville, Westminster Green Party candidate: “Helen Yeomans and her choir remind us through their beautiful music and lyrics of what we hold dear….profound and powerful”.
Julian Marshall, London Song Company: “Striking, original and heartfelt”
Phil White, BBC Radio Humberside: “A stand out show in a stand-out year”
