Pre-Concert Talk: Robert Hugill – The Cinderella Effect – A History of the Piano Quartet
10th November 2019 · 5:30pm - 6:30pm
In person | Virtual event
British composer, journalist, and lecturer Robert Hugill, returns to Conway Hall for a free Pre-Concert Talk, exploring the ‘Cinderella Effect’ that occurred with the emergence of Mozart’s piano quartet.
Intended for amateurs but in fact far too difficult, Mozart’s first piano quartet effectively created a new genre, which remained in the shadow of its big brother, the piano quintet. Even Schumann’s piano quartet remained far less popular than his contemporaneous quintet.
This free event will be followed by the evening’s Sunday Concert, which will open with a performance of Mozart’s graceful E flat piano quartet by the Rossetti Ensemble. For more information and tickets to the Sunday Concert, visit our website: https://www.conwayhall.org.uk/event/rossetti-ensemble/
