Small Steps… Big Ideas: A Little Light (Pain) Relief
20th October 2019 · 2:30pm - 3:30pm
In person | Virtual event
It’s not easy being a scientist. Most of what we do ends in utter failure and when our experiments do work no one really wants to know about it. The majority of published papers are read no more than three to four times a year and they are rarely read from gun to tape. Occasionally, just occasionally, you hit the experimental jackpot. Your experiment works, your paper gets read and after talking about your work to anyone who cares to listen, someone asks to know more and wants to take your work, run with it, make your findings leave the journal pages and transition into something meaningful. The last few sentences can take years of your life to accomplish. This happened to UCL Professor of Pharmacy Ijeoma F. Uchegbu (Chief Scientific Officer of Nanomerics) and her team and she cannot wait to tell you all about it. She does not promise you a tale of a ground breaking event similar to discovery of no life on Mars, but a simple tale of small particles trying to make it big up someone’s nose (hopefully) and making them feel less pain.
FREE – but pre-booking is recommended

Part of Bloomsbury Festival 2019
—
Established in 2006, Bloomsbury Festival is a creative explosion of arts, culture and science. For five days each October, the streets, parks, museums, galleries, laboratories and public and private buildings of this vibrant cultural quarter play host up to 130 events which attract a significant audience from across London and beyond.
With a unique blend of academic institutions, businesses, cultural organisations and diverse communities, Bloomsbury has been a catalyst for ideas that have had impact across the world for hundreds of years. Bloomsbury Festival celebrates contemporary Bloomsbury; a hotbed of creativity and pioneering development which has one of the youngest and most diverse populations in the country.
The Festival works with many large and small partners to create and deliver its annual programme. More than simply a showcase for the area, instead Bloomsbury Festival acts as a catalyst bringing together artists and academics, scientists and dancers, musicians, publishers and school pupils to make new projects and to inspire and learn from each other.
Outside the Festival period, Bloomsbury Festival delivers community engagement and arts projects across the year. These include it’s pioneering project, Festival in a Box, which takes artists into the homes of people living with dementia to provide life enhancing and joyful cultural experiences for people who are often lonely and isolated.
Above all, Bloomsbury Festival aims to be enlivening, engaging, entertaining, and fun!

We are committed to promoting inclusive practice at Conway Hall. Due to the constraints of our historic building, there is currently no step-free access to the Library. Please see our Access and Visitor Information for further accessibility information or contact us at Librarian@conwayhall.org.uk. We vary the location of our events between the Library and other ground level rooms, and are working to ensure that everyone is able to attend all our events in the future.
