Histoire du Tango

In 1985, Piazzolla composed Histoire du Tango – a piece which charts the history of Tango from its immigrant roots in Argentina and Uruguay. Beginning in the cultural melting pot of the ports of Rio de La Plata in the 1900’s and travelling to the 1930’s ballrooms and cafe culture of Paris then onwards to its fusion with jazz and popular culture in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Argentine tango is now a thriving and well-loved social dance, adored all over the world from Berlin to Istanbul to Tokyo to… Conway Hall, where there will be a special evening to celebrate the growth of the genre.

UK Tango Championship finalists Emma Lucia Reyes (UK) and Carlos Cisneros (Argentina) will breathe new life into Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango, reimagining his iconic arrangement with a performance of live dance and audio-visual effects re-telling the story of tango for a contemporary audience. The performance will be followed by a ‘Milonga’ – a social tango dancing evening in the spectacular surroundings of Conway Hall.
