Sunday Concerts: Asaka Quartet

Formed in 2021 at the Royal Academy of Music, the Asaka Quartet are already winning prizes and establishing themselves as a promising new string quartet. Their Conway Hall début programme is eclectic and colourful, ranging from the pure, classical beauty of Haydn, through the lyrical romanticism of Mendelssohn and culminating in Bax’s First String Quartet, dedicated to Sir Edward Elgar. Along the way they offer a rare opportunity to hear the Norwegian folktune, Tjønneblomen, which completes their attractive programme!

Haydn | Quartet in C Op.54/2
Mendelssohn | Quartet No.1 in E♭ Op.12
Gjermund Haugen | Arr. Danish String Quartet: Tjønneblomen
Bax | Quartet No.1 in G

Iona McDonald • violin
