Sunday Concerts: Ensemble V + Pre-Concert Talk

Ensemble V was formed to record the Piano Quintet of the British composer Kenneth V. Jones – and they take their name from his middle initial! In this concert they will combine Jones’ rhythmically quirky and spookily atmospheric Quintet with some of his shorter works, and two absolute masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire by Mozart & Dvořák. This concert coincides with the release of an album of Jones’ music – including the Quintet – which will be on sale at the Box Office on the night.

Mozart | Piano Quartet No.1 in G minor K478
Kenneth V Jones | Piano Quintet
Kenneth V Jones | Two Contrasts for solo cello
Kenneth V Jones | Two Pieces for violin & piano
Dvořák | Piano Quintet Op.81

Ruth Rogers • violin
Kate Comberti • violin
Sally Beamish • viola
Sebastian Comberti • cello
Viv McLean • piano

Pre-Concert Talk with Sebastian Comberti • 5:30pm

Sebastian got to know Kenneth V. Jones by chance when he moved to the same small village nestled in the South Downs, south of Lewes. It quickly became apparent that outside of Kenneth’s prodigious film and TV music output he had also written a number of works for the concert hall and BBC broadcast, some of which had not been played for many years. Sebastian will talk about some of this music, as well as the composer’s influences and inspiration from his contemporaries.
