Freethought History Festival: Family Fun Day

Join us for a family-friendly day of free activities celebrating inspiring people who have dreamed of a better world. Suitable for children of all ages, this event offers a chance to get creative, have fun, and learn about the freethinking people and the big ideas that have shaped our society.

Tom Paine’s Bones! A puppet building workshop – 11am & 2pm

Thomas Paine was a revolutionary who helped to change the world. But what happened to his bones? Join cartoonist, graphic novelist and prop-builder Polyp to uncover the mystery, and reassemble old Tom’s skeleton – just in time for a parade through Conway Hall!

Great and Good? A plaque-making workshop – Drop in

Our city is full of statues and plaques of important people, past and present. But who do we remember as ‘great’ and why? How do we celebrate those we decide are worthy, and who gets left out? Join Clare Stainthorp and Maddy Goodall for a hands-on workshop and make your own plaque celebrating someone important to you!

Sing for Eliza! A singing workshop – 12pm & 3pm

Did you know that Conway Hall has its very own famous composer? Her name is Eliza Flower. A long time ago she wrote music for everyone to sing together. Join Frances from Electric Voice Theatre to sing & sign a very special song that tells the amazing story of Eliza’s life. Frances knows the song, but she needs your help – she hasn’t got a loud enough voice to do it without you!

Doers & Dreamers storytelling – Drop in

What buildings and places have inspired you? Conway Hall has lots of stories of amazing people throughout its history. Take a virtual journey through Conway Hall with storyteller Isabelle King, and learn more about them, then share your own stories of inspiring places in your life!
