Duo Diez is an innovative and eclectic musical collaboration between guitarist Dimitris Dekavallas and violinist Violeta Barrena. The chosen name for the Duo originates from the spanish word “diez” which means ten, the number of their combined strings. A shared interest between Violeta and Dimitris in performing and promoting Spanish and Latin American classical music signaled the start of Duo Diez in 2012, and since meeting at the Royal Academy of Music as students, they have both developed interesting and varied international solo careers.
Their repertoire encompasses a wide range of styles from Bach, Mozart and Schubert to Sarasate, Piazzolla and Villa Lobos. Individually they are the recipients of many prizes and awards and have performed for the Royal Family, The Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury at venues such as the Wigmore Hall, The Royal Festival Hall, St David’s Hall, Bolivar Hall, The Forge, the Roundhouse and the Royal Albert Hall. Radio and TV appearances include on BBC Radio 3, ITV1, ITV2 and BBC1.
They have performed and toured in, Greece, the UK, Spain, the USA, Belgium, Chile, France, Romania, Italy, Mexico, Oman, Azerbaijan, Austria, The United Arab Emirates, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and Australia.
Violeta plays on a 1735 Sanctus Seraphin violin, kindly on loan from Derek J. Croome. Dimitris is sponsored by D’Addario & Company and plays on a Greg Smallman 2008 guitar.
