Parallel Journeys: Thames Chamber Choir

New paintings by Alfred Huckett | new music by Andrew Campling

Parallel Journeys is a concert that celebrates the current exhibition of artworks at Conway Hall created by artist Alfred Huckett between 2010-2015, all based on music. His recent work is a series completed this year derived from two pieces of Medieval plainsong, Ave Maris Stella and Stabat Mater. These two anthems were chosen as motifs both by Alfred Huckett and composer Andrew Campling as a joint project in which to form paintings and music.

Andrew Campling’s new work Ave Maris Stella is based on the extraordinary life-journey of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The music incorporates two plainsong themes: ‘Ave Maris Stella’ (Hail, Thou Star of the Sea’) and ‘Stabat Mater Dolorosa’, (The Mother Stands Weeping). The work is for soprano solo, chorus and strings.

Conducted by Andrew Campling and Christian Spielmann, with Thames Chamber Choir and musicians from the Marcel Sinfonia.

All concert proceeds will be donated to the Coram Foundation for Children, a charity that helps over a million vulnerable children and young people every year.
