Disenfranchising Mourning of Eelam Tamils

To mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of the “Eelam Research Organisation” (1975-2015), a special lecture will be delivered by Prof. Peter Schalk, Sweden titled “Disenfranchising Mourning of Eelam Tamils”.
Prof. Peter Schalk was the Chair Professor of History of Religions, especially Hinduism and Buddhism, at Uppsala University until December 2011. He is now retired, but keeps ahead of his research interests. He has been engaged in Tamil Studies since the 1970s, and started his fieldwork in Sri Lanka in 1970.
The lecture will commence promptly at 9.30am after the welcoming address running up until 10.30am with an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.
We will also be screening the trailer of the upcoming movie “Thileepan” directed by Anand Murthy a film based on the final days of martyr, Col.Thileepan, of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) who fasted until death in protest of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) occupation in Sri Lanka and the signing of the Indo-Lanka Accord of 1987.
