Throughout the twentieth century the Ethical Union, and later the British Humanist Association (BHA), made numerous connections with organisations around the world. These included humanist groups in other countries, for example the Human-Etisk Forbund in Norway, as well as those in related fields, such as the Euthanasia Society.
These international connections were further secured in the 1952 when the Ethical Union joined with other national groups to create the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU). Today the IHEU continues to provide a global umbrella for humanists, secularists, rationalists and freethinkers worldwide.
