EQUAL Launch – Towards Race Equality within the CJS

The Young Review launched in December 2014 providing a comprehensive insight into the disproportionate poorer outcomes of BAME and Muslim men within the criminal justice system with trailblazing recommendations to inoculate against racial bias within the CJS.

From the report, the Young Review Independent Advisory Group (YRIAG) was established with experts from various fields of the criminal justice system. YRIAG oversaw the implementations of the recommendations from the Young Review. Baroness Lola Young steered YRIAG for 6 years before stepping down as chair in 2018.

To continue the important legacy of the Young Review, Iqbal Wahhab OBE has been appointed as Chair of the Young Review Independent Advisory Group. To mark a new era in the project, YRIAG has been rebranded and renamed as EQUAL.

To celebrate the new phase of EQUAL please join us on the 4th of December at Conway Hall, Brockway Room at 1:45pm-4:30pm where we will be joined by our Chair Iqbal Wahhab OBE, Nina Champion of the Criminal Justice Alliance, Tanya O’Carroll, BTEG and friends.
