For our November event, we’ll be joined at Conway Hall by tireless human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell.
Peter has been campaigning on issues of human rights, democracy, LGBT freedom, and global justice since 1967. He was instrumental in the campaign for marriage equality, coordinating the Equal Love campaign since 2010. Recently, he was detained in Moscow after protesting against the torture and imprisonment of gay men in Chechnya.
At this talk, Peter will be discussing his campaign for an alternative to marriage and civil partnerships. Peter’s proposed framework – the civil commitment pact – would give rights to any two people who share a close bond, rather than restricting such rights to those in a romantic relationship. Offering a modern, flexible alternative to marriage and civil partnerships, such a system would benefit all those who are in relationships of reciprocal devotion and care.
Doors will open at 19:00 for a 19:30 start, and you’ll find us in the Brockway Room. The event is free to attend, although donations to LGBT Humanists are gratefully received. We look forward to seeing you there!
