 Self-Compassion with Dr Kristin Neff

Self-compassion involves treating ourselves like we would a good friend. Rather than continually judging and evaluating ourselves, we can show kindness toward ourselves as imperfect humans, and learn to cope better with the inevitable struggles of life.

Dr Neff will show how we can make changes needed in our lives, not because we’re worthless, inadequate or selfish, but because we care about ourselves.

During her last year of graduate school in 1997 Kristin Neff became interested in Buddhism, and has been practicing meditation ever since. While doing her post-doctoral work she decided to conduct research on self-compassion – a central construct in Buddhist psychology and one that had not yet been examined empirically.

Dr Kristin Neff is now recognised as one of the world’s leading experts on self-compassion, being the first to operationally define and measure the concept over a decade ago. She is author of Self-Compassion and has also developed an eight-week program to teach self-compassion skills in daily life, called Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC).

This event is in support of Action for Happiness. We want to make it accessible to as many people as possible, so rather than charging a fixed fee we’re instead asking you to make a donation.
