 The Story 2018

Last year’s event was full of creative, diverse, inspirational speakers, including Inua Ellams, David Conn, Lara Pawson, Kate Clanchy, Nikesh Shukla, Victoria Mapplebeck and Ewen Spencer.

The Story 2018 will again be a celebration of everything that is wonderful, inspiring and awesome about stories, in whatever medium possible. We’ll have stories that are written, spoken, played, described, enacted, whispered, projected, orchestrated, performed, printed – whatever form stories come in, we hope to have them here.

We’re very pleased indeed to announce our next speaker for The Story 2018 — Jarvis Cocker. At Storythings, we really like people who cross between different formats and styles of telling stories, and as such we’re *huge* fans of Jarvis Cocker. From the early days of Pulp to his recent collaboration with Chilly Gonzales, stories have always been central to his work. We can’t wait to see what Jarvis will talk about at The Story next February, and we expect to sell out quickly. So if you haven’t got your ticket, get yours now! Jarvis’ team sent us over a fantastic bio for him, so if, somehow, you don’t know who he is, here you go:

As always, The Story is an independent event – we don’t take any payment ourselves for running it, so we put the income from ticket sales into paying our speakers properly, covering all their costs, and making sure they have everything they need to give a fantastic talk on the day. You’re paying to see them, after all, so we believe in paying all our speakers for their hard work.

Other than speaker and event costs, every year we make a donation from ticket sales to the brilliant work of Ministry of Stories. As with last year, we’re supporting the three MoS centres in London, Rotherham and soon in BrightonSo we’ll guarantee that £15 from each ticket – £6,000 in all – will go to support the work of these great organisations.

We’ve created discount codes for students, subscribers to our newsletter, and other partners. This will help us target the discounts to the people who are loyal fans of The Story, or who really need them because otherwise they couldn’t afford to attend. We’re committed to making The Story as accessible as possible, so hopefully this discount code system will really help.

Standard tickets at £75 (+VAT and fees), and 100 Last Chance tickets at £100 (+VAT and fees).
