The Conway Collective was Conway Hall’s group of resident performance makers, creating and curating work around the building, from live art and spoken word to dance spectaculars. Funded by Arts Council England the Collective hosted the Conway Cohort, up and coming dancers who were mentored and given rehearsal space and performance opportunities.
The Collective has curated spectacular, shows that have filled the entire building, intimate pieces in the library and on the stairwells, and everything in between. Highlights have included a musical adaptation of ‘Principia Mathematica’ performed with The London School of Philosophy, the annual ‘Parade’ events bringing together dance, music, live art and video in circus-style spectacle, and a site-specific staging of ‘The Cherry Orchard’ which engaged the entire audience as performers and took place outside as well as inside the building. As well as creating their own work, the Collective is always looking to collaborate with others and provide creative spaces and platforms for artists and performers making new, radical work which is sympathetic to the ethos and history of the building.
