Abstract

‘The Shadow’ is the intuitive, instinctive and affective side of the psyche, which modern Western man has neglected in favour of the rational, scientific side. Such neglect leads to imbalance and one-sidedness, and produces prejudice and hatred. The ‘shadow’ parts of the psyche should therefore be fully acknowledged, respected and explored, so that genuine wholeness of being may be achieved.
