A talk on ‘Rights of Passage’, with Clare Summerskill

We’re delighted to be welcoming singer, actress, stand-up, and playwright Clare Summerskill at our October event to talk about her play ‘Rights of Passage’.

The play was developed based on interviews with LGBT asylum seekers, and tells their moving and courageous stories. In this presentational talk Clare discusses issues addressed in the play, including the situation of LGBT rights internationally, legal criteria that allow LGBT people persecuted in their home country to seek asylum in other nations, and Home Office interview questioning methods which ask people to ‘prove’ that they are gay.

Clare will read some extracts from the play, as well as presenting a selection of character monologues. The talk will be followed by some time for Q&A.

Doors will open at 19:00 for a 19:30 start, on Thursday 11 October. We’ll be in the Brockway Room at Conway Hall, and look forward to seeing you there!
