Truly breathtaking virtuosity from this careful and intelligent performer ” – Sydney Morning Herald Born in 1972 Alexander Boyd enjoys a busy international career as both soloist and chamber musician. He made his concerto debut in 1983 performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto N.1 conducted by Yerzy Maksimiuk with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and since making his London Wigmore Hall debut in 2001 Alexander has performed regularly at most of the major concert halls in the United Kingdom and Australia and appeared at many major music festivals throughout the world. In recent years Alexander has performed in England Ireland Scotland New Zealand and Australia as well as giving debut recitals in Brussels (Cercle Royal Gaulois) and Los Angeles (University of California). He was also invited by Musica Viva to tour Australia with the Navarra String Quartet appearing and broadcasting live at the Huntingdon Festival as well as many other venues throughout the rest of the country. 2013/14 brings further recitals throughout the UK including London’s St John’s Smith Square Wigmore Hall Conway Hall South Bank Centre (Purcell Room) and the Barber Series in Birmingham. His return to Australia in 2014 includes invitations to perform as part of the Resonate Recital Series at the Art Gallery of NSW as well the Melbourne Recital Centre and concerts in Brisbane Perth Canberra and Sydney. Alexander also performs frequently with his brother cellist Nathaniel Boyd and following their London debut at the South Bank Centre in 2013 they will be touringAustralia in 2015. Alexander has broadcast on numerous occasions for ABC Radio BBC Radio and Televisionand has also recorded various works by Bach Chopin and Debussy for the Chartreuse and Abbas labels. In recent years he has developed a passion for the music of Spain andis preparing a recording of Iberia by Isaac Albeniz. Passionate about teaching Alexander is a teacher at the University of Birmingham and also on the piano staff at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has also given master classes at Oxford University Birmingham University and in New Zealand at the University of Wellington.
