Sunday Concerts:
Heath Quartet & Ben Goldscheider
29th September 2024 · 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Doors open: 6:00pm
In person
The Heath Quartet formed in 2002 at the Royal Northern College of Music. They were selected for representation by YCAT, won the 2008 TROMP competition, and the 2012 Ensemble Prize at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where they are now regular visitors. In 2016 they won the GRAMOPHONE Chamber Award for their recording of the Tippett quartets, and in May 2013 became the first ensemble in fifteen years to win the prestigious RPS Young Artists Award. For their long-awaited return to Conway Hall, they are joined by horn player Ben Goldscheider, who has recently given recitals at major concert halls across Europe including at the Concertgebouw, Musikverein, Pierre Boulez Saal, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Köln Philharmonie and Wigmore Hall, among others.
“The Heath Quartet play each with an electrifying intensity, maintaining an irresistible impetus and negotiating abrupt character changes with aplomb.” — The Sunday Times
“Ben Goldscheider seemed untroubled by these demands, which included athletic trips through the registers, rapid changes of mute, and none of the cracks and blahts that usually punctuate even the best horn-playing and are, of course, always the instrument’s fault. It was a superb display.” — The Arts Desk
