Odysseus Ensemble Sara Trickey violin Gemma Rosefield ‘cello Claire Hammond piano Beethoven : Trio in D Op 70/1 ‘Ghost’ Handel-Halvorsen : Passacaglia Mendelssohn : Trio in D minor Op.49 Sara Trickey brings her “beautifully refined tone” (Musical Opinion) and her “fiery and passionate” performance style (The Strad) to her award-winning career as both solo violinist and chamber musician. She studied at the Royal College of Music at Cambridge University where she achieved a double starred First and at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a Scholarship Student of Camilla Wicks. She has also been a regular participant at the International Musicians’ Seminar at Prussia Cove. As a chamber musician Sara was leader of the Bronte string quartet between 2001 and 2006. The quartet were prize-winners at the 2005 international competition in Cremona and won first prize at the Royal Overseas League competition in 2003. They performed at many of the UK’s major venues and festivals. Winner of the prestigious Pierre Fournier Award at Wigmore Hall in 2007 Gemm a Rosefield (’cello) made her concerto debut at the age of sixteen when she won First Prize in the European Music for Youth Competition in Oslo Norway playing a televised performance of the Saint-Saens Concerto with the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Other numerous awards and prizes include the Premier Prix Maurice Ravel in France. Gemma has completed her studies with Ralph Kirshbaum at the Royal Northern College of Music where she was awarded the coveted Gold Medal. She had previously graduated with First Class Honours at the Royal Academy of Music as a pupil of David Strange where she won numerous prizes including the Vice-Principal’s Special Prize. An English graduate of Oxford University Julian Milford (Piano) subsequently studied piano and piano accompaniment at the Curtis Institute and the Guildhall. He works as an accompanist and chamber musician with some of Britain’s finest instrumentalists and singers performing at major chamber music venues across Britain and Europe. Julian has also recorded extensively for major independent recording labels including Chandos Hyperion ASV and Black Box. He has made a number of recordings with the distinguished violinist Lydia Mordkovitch for Carlton Classics and Chandos. His debut solo recording comprising works by William Alwyn (Chandos) was described as ‘impeccably stylish’ by BBC music magazine. £9 tickets £4 for full-time students (free entry for under-16s) Doors open at 17.30.
