Mark Padmore, Roger Vignoles & Hazel Holder: Songs of the Earth
28th January 2024 · 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Doors open: 6:00pm
In person
Songs of the Earth is a programme of music and poetry reflecting on the beautiful, wonder-filled world we live in. Ranging from Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann to Sally Beamish and Tansy Davies, from William Wordsworth to Mary Oliver, the selection seeks to explore and examine our relationship with nature and to ask questions about how and why we have so often caused damage and destruction. The programme is thought-provoking and stimulating, aware that in order to care for and protect our environment we first of all need to humbly appreciate and cherish it.
Mark Padmore • tenor
Roger Vignoles • piano
Hazel Holder • reader
“Padmore was a dozen different singers in one. The age of his voice changed from song to song. It grew stronger and weaker. It coiled up in tension for one stanza, and relaxed in the next.” – The Philadelphia Inquirer
“Pianist Roger Vignoles contributes poetic imagination, subtle shading and searching artistry to each song.” – Classic FM
