The Likely Future of Israel in a Self-imposed One-state Situation

Retired open University academic Dr Brian Beeley will consider the effects of President Trump’s rejection of the ‘two-state’ mantra for Israel and the implications if Israel retains control of all of historic Palestine (plus Syria’s Golan Heights).

President Trump has changed the elements of the conflict in the Holy Land by supporting Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s rejection of the ‘two-state’ mantra still espoused by the UK and most other countries. But if Israel retains control of all of historic Palestine (plus the Golan area of Syria) it will rule a population with a majority of non-Jews. How it can then be democratic and Jewish will be critical to all involved.

Dr Brian Beeley is a retired university academic with a particular interest in the Middle East since 1956 when he couldn’t understand why Britain attacked Egypt in that year. He tries to avoid identifying ‘good guys’ and ‘bad guys’ in his efforts to explain conflict in realist terms.
