What We Throw Away And Where It Goes
1st September 2019 · 11:00am - 12:30pm
In person | Virtual event
This September 1st we are returning to Conway Hall fresh off our summer break to discuss one of the biggest trending topics of 2019 – WASTE.
Have you started to think about your waste consumption this year? Started recycling more perhaps or reducing your plastic consumption altogether?
A new report endorsed by Surfers Against Sewage estimates that the UK population throws away over 295 BILLION pieces of plastic every year, with just 4% of the annual plastic waste actually being recycled in the UK.
Are we being lied to about recycling? Because clearly, recycling is not enough.
We are super excited to have Daniel Webb along to speak with us! Daniel is the Founder and Director of Everyday Plastic, and in 2018 he was commissioned to make a giant mural before co-authoring What we throw away and where it goes – a seminal report based on rigorous analysis of his collection with earth scientist Dr Julie Schneider.
As always alongside that we will have some wonderful spoken word from Binky Hyde. Then we’ll also be doing our usual: Mass singalongs to some of our favourite power ballads, hearing stories from a number of our community and drinking a vat of tea afterwards.
Please remember, Sunday Assembly London is free to attend and runs entirely on donations. Please support us if you can to keep it free for those who can’t. You can become a supporter here: https://sundayassembly.charitycheckout.co.uk/
Accessible Parking:
Conway Hall have let us know that there is one accessible parking spot in Red Lion Square, but it is frequently in use. However, parking is free and unrestricted on Sundays outside Conway Hall.
